(Graduated 2017)

"I’ve come a long way in three years; I started studying BA Advertising and Brand Design at UWTSD in 2014 as a quiet, self-doubting and shy individual. Through the course modules I have grown and progressed by participating in critiques and presentations, working in groups, networking with students from other courses and participating in workshops to improve my skills. I am now much more confident and outspoken and have made many friends for life thanks to the course."

Ross Weaver – Art Director at 180 KingsDay
(Graduated 2016)

‘I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for the building blocks that the Advertising and Brand Design course gave me. The tutors were fundamental in equipping me with the right tools to enter the industry, making the work environment feel like a natural progression after graduating. This course was very different from any previous education I’ve been through. I found constant excitement in that it really is up to you to dictate how you grow and progress, it’s about creating problems and solving them, learning new skills that unlock new opportunities and building a path to a career that suits you.’

Ross graduated in 2016, his big break came just days before final graduation. Every year the course organises a stand at the D&AD New Blood exhibition in Shoreditch for its’ third-year students. Ross was one of the talented graduates who had the opportunity to share his work with the many industry leaders who visit the event.

Amongst the many prospective employers who attend, the Creative Director from Dutch-based global agency 180 Kingsday was scouting for new talent and happened to see two of Ross’s ambitious projects. One of which was a branded app for children’s sun protection and the other was a creative concept that solved the problem of internet access in remote parts of the world. His future-facing, convention-breaking ideas impressed, and within days Ross had an offer of a 3-month paid internship in Amsterdam, by the start of 2017, Ross’s internship turned into a permanent job offer and he is now an established Art Director for the agency working on top-level projects for DHL, Qatar Airways, Playstation, Asics and Under Armour

(Graduated 2014)

"Most importantly the course gave me a place to show people what I was capable of doing - turning ideas into tangible solutions that can change the way people think and feel. It’s important to stay relevant and have the most adaptable idea. The course taught me to always be myself, don’t follow trends or copy others around you, you will last ten minutes doing that in the industry."

(Graduated 2014)

"The Advertising and Brand Design course at UWTSD set me up with a range of skills that I could carry across to the ‘real world’. How to interpret a brief, understanding the different marketing routes and how they could be utilised, and event management were all skills that I picked up during university. I felt really proud to be able to offer these skills even when just starting out."

Rhys Hughes - Creative Team at AMV BBDO
(Graduated 2011)

"I am currently working in London as a senior art director after a 7-year stint in Manchester agencies. My favourite part of the course was the conceptual work, but one thing that surprised me was how useful in the real world the professional studies element was. The staff were fantastic, super supportive and knowledgeable. My course mates were fab too, many of whom I’m still in close contact with. I found that our course was a tighter-knitted bunch than some other courses and there was great support and healthy competition between peers."

"Work life is a big shift from student life and you can never be fully prepared for it but our course taught us valuable skills that help to make the transition easier. Things like how to answer a brief, how to work to deadlines and how to work with others just to mention a few."

"Upon graduation, I applied for several internships and was thrilled to get an interview at a renowned advertising agency in Manchester. It was somewhere I was unfamiliar with, but without the support from the course, I truly believe that I wouldn’t have had the guts to go there for the interview. I was over the moon when I was chosen for the internship and within two weeks I left to start this new chapter. Within a short time, I was awarded with the ‘Employee of the Month’ award, and nominated for the ‘Most Promising Young Person in Manchester’ award at the ‘Manchester Young Talent Awards 2016’. I have recently moved into a new marketing area and the skills I learnt continue to prove invaluable. I now work in an events and live communications agency on more tangible projects. This is something that I had enjoyed in my third year of uni. At the moment I’m busy planning the lead up to an event in Milan and am excited to undertake my first onsite managerial role!"
