Stewart Hardie & Harry Gammer-Flitcroft
After graduating from our photography programme, Stewart Hardie & Harry Gammer-Flitcroft continued their studies at the Royal College of Art and subsequently set up an independent artist-led publishing platform called Folium Publishing, based in Camberwell, London, England. Folium has published with artists and collectives and continue to produce experimental publications that push the medium in new and innovative directions.
‘Studying on the Photography programme at Swansea College of Art gave us the confidence and expertise we needed to flourish creatively, not only as artists but as curators of ideas. The Photography staff taught us how to develop our creative voice, which is something we bring to our process as publishers.’

“During my studies in Swansea College of Art UWTSD, I met a lot of really good friends and as a group of students we helped each other out through critical discussions about our work.
I still have contact with a lot of people from the course, both socially and professionally, as we have projects running together and have exhibited together since university”

London-based photographer originally from Finland. He works on personal projects alongside commercial work with clients such as Levi’s, Adidas, Sony, Nike & Jack Daniels.
“The 3rd year major project was very important for me. By being given a whole year to work on a project, it gave me the freedom to try everything, and I found experimenting and sharing the results in seminar groups very useful. Constructive criticism within a group is an essential process in defining your individual interest and style in photography”.

“Although acquiring technical knowledge is something I have had great use of in my work, to me the most important thing I learned at Swansea College of Art has been the theory behind photography. Working as a designer I use artists and their use of this media as a reference when talking with clients. In addition to this, the final major project gave me time to find my visual language and discover who I was as an artist”.

“Whilst studying in Swansea College of Art UWTSD I developed an experimental approach to making work. Using performance combined with photography, I transformed the act of making a photograph into an event… This process of making photographs, embracing fun, chance and repetition is still engrained in the work I create now.”
