Leadership and Management Skills for the Workplace (BA) (Daytime)

Leadership and Management skills are increasingly sought after within private, public and third sector organisations.

This Leadership and Management programme aims to provide employability opportunities for current and future managers and leaders. Through the development of knowledge and understanding using a variety of learning tools including lectures, seminars, specialist speakers and practical real world exercises.

The development of these skills will be evaluated by practicing leaders and managers.

The programme is suitable for those already working within a management/team leader role or those who wish to pursue this as a career path.

We welcome applications from students who have gained the Cert. HE Level 4- Skills for the Workplace or applicants with a Level 4 qualification in any subject area.

What you will learn

Course Overview

If you want to be a future decision maker within organisations then join the BA (Hons) Leadership and Management programme.

The programme will develop your learning skills through a variety of classroom/online activities.

There will be opportunities for you to take a leadership role within teams and build your confidence in dealing with people, analysing and evaluating information and making decisions

The teaching team on this programme are recognised for their supportive approach.  The team has a wealth of experience of working within private, public and third sector organisations both as practitioners and supporting employees to achieve higher level qualifications

As a student you will be expected to engage in a range of activities including analysing current leadership and management issues, developing your professional business communication skills and undertaking the role of leader or consultant to assist external organisations research and decision making.

Module Topics

Modules within the programme cover a range of Leadership and Management key areas such as Managing People, Delivering for Customers, Decision Making and Change, Working with Global Cultures, Managing Projects. 


The programme is assessed in a variety of academic and practical ways. They are designed to advance the students level of problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.

Assessments are often linked to industry examples and practical activities and include evaluation by current industry practitioners.

Entry Criteria

The degree welcomes applicants who have previously studied and completed level 4 Skills for the Workplace.

We also welcome applications from individuals who have achieved a level 4 qualification in other  subjects.

To assess student suitability for the programme we arrange interviews for all applicants at which your skills, achievements and life experience will be considered as well as your qualifications.

The programme enables students to develop the key skills and competencies required by employers in a constantly competitive global market including critical and strategic thinking, management of change, being innovative and making decisions.

These skills and attributes will help provide opportunities for furthering career prospects across sectors.

Close industry links aid the transition from student to employee.

The Institute of Management and Health offers several Business related Master’s programmes for those who wish to undertake further study. 

Additional Costs

As an institution, we seek to continually enhance the student experience and as a result, additional costs may be incurred by the student on activities that will add value to their education.  Where possible these costs will be kept to a minimum.

The University has an excellent online library which enables all students to access a wide range of resources with no extra cost.

The BA Leadership and Management programme contributed to my career growth by developing the practical skills required to become an effective manager and leader in the 21st Century.

Teamwork activities with peers from different cultural background encouraged innovative thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills. This experience brought additional career opportunities in a globalised world. Lecturers’ knowledge and professional experience were delivered by using different teaching techniques that met my personal needs. Additionally, as a foreign student with a disability, I received the greatest support, which enabled me to have an equal chance to acquire an education.

During this degree course, I have been challenged along the way, which increased my self-esteem. Hence, I feel confident to apply for positions I would never have applied for before.
