Visiting Wales Campuses and celebrating the bicentenary of UWTSD

On 11th and 12th August 2022, 40 students and staff from the Birmingham campus visited the UWTSD campuses in Carmarthen and Lampeter, and participated in the Bicentenary celebrations in St Peter’s Church and at the Lampeter campus on 12th August.

On Thursday 11th August, we travelled by coach from Birmingham to our campus in Carmarthen. The oldest town in Wales, Carmarthen is steeped in history and is the perfect place to absorb Welsh culture. Famed for its Roman heritage and connection to Arthurian legend, in recent years the town has developed a vibrant, cosmopolitan reputation, boasting lively bars and restaurants alongside two shopping centres with lots of little independents. Here, we had lunch and a walking tour of Carmarthen Campus.

We then travelled to our campus in Lampeter, where we had dinner, a 'quiz' organised by the Student Union with refreshments, then spent the night in student accommodation on site. Lampeter is located at the heart of the small, picturesque market town; the campus is surrounded by plenty of attractions to spark your interest. The oldest university and the site of the first rugby match in Wales, the campus is steeped in history and surrounded by stunning countryside to explore.

On Friday 12th August, we had breakfast, then attended a celebratory event of the Bicentenary of Higher Education in Wales, where a procession through the town took place, a plaque unveiled, and lunch was provided.

Organised by: Francesca Cole (Student Services Officer)
