October Events at Birmingham!

By Jessie Reid
Wednesday, October 7, 2020

October is here, and so are our student events! Starting from Tuesday 13th October 2020, Birmingham Learning Centre is hosting various events throughout October, for all Birmingham students, focussing on careers and wellbeing.

What to expect for the October events

During Week 5 of the Birmingham term and continuing until the end of October, the Student Services team will be running several free, online events for all Birmingham students. These include CV workshops, live webinars on public speaking, an 'Everyday First Aid' workshop run by St. John Ambulance, and more.

The Birmingham Student Services team will be releasing a link for you to sign up to these events via Moodle, so keep an eye out for this. Alternatively, you can email them to register a place at BirminghamStudentServices@uwtsd.ac.uk.

The schedule of events

Tuesday 13th October

Public Speaking Session - 1:00pm

Our Birmingham Learning Centre counsellor Fiona will be running a live webinar on Public Speaking. If you have a presentation coming up or you are interested in building your confidence, this is a great webinar to get involved in. The webinar will be run on Microsoft Teams and recorded, so you will have access to the information afterwards.

Sign up via the link on Moodle, or email BirminghamStudentServices@uwtsd.ac.uk

CV Workshop Drop-In Session - 2:00-3:00pm

The Careers team at Birmingham Learning Centre will be running an online CV workshop drop-in session. They will be on hand to help with your CV, answer any questions, and support you in your job-hunt. This will be via Microsoft Teams.

You will need to email the careers team directly to book a place, at Careers.Birmingham@uwtsd.ac.uk

Wednesday 14th October

Preparing for an Interview Drop-In Session - 2:00-3:00pm

Once your CV is ready to go and you apply for that job, it can be exciting but daunting when you receive an interview invitation. Calm your nerves and feel more prepared by attending the Careers team's online drop-in session for Preparing for an Interview. This will be via Microsoft Teams.

You will need to email the careers team directly to book a place, at Careers.Birmingham@uwtsd.ac.uk

Managing Anxiety and Stress - Recorded Session

It is a difficult time for most at the moment, and Fay and Charlotte from the Birmingham Student Services will be delivering a session on managing your anxiety and stress during your studies. Due to capacity, this will not be a live session, but instead a recorded video available to all students.

Once the video is recorded, the team will be sending an announcement via Moodle with instructions on how to access it. Please keep an eye out for this announcement, and email BirminghamStudentServices@uwtsd.ac.uk with any questions.

Friday 16th October

St John Ambulance - Everyday First Aid - 1pm

Andrew from St John Ambulance is delivering a fantastic Everyday First Aid workshop. This will be a live webinar on Microsoft Teams, and its aim is to raise First Aid awareness and teach basic First Aid skills that everyone should know.

Birmingham students will receive a link to this session via a Moodle announcement. If you have not received this, please email BirminghamStudentServices@uwtsd.ac.uk to sign up.

Tuesday 27th October

Preparing for an Interview Drop-In Session - 2:00-3:00pm

If you missed the first drop-in session earlier in the month, don't worry! The Careers team is hosting another session on Tuesday 27th October.

You will need to email the careers team directly to book a place, at Careers.Birmingham@uwtsd.ac.uk

Wednesday 28th October

CV Workshop Drop-In Session - 2:00-3:00pm

Similarly, if you couldn't make our first CV workshop drop-in session, this is a second session hosted by the Careers team.

You will need to email the careers team directly to book a place, at Careers.Birmingham@uwtsd.ac.uk
