Tell us a bit about yourself…
- I’m a third-year student graduating this year.
- I enjoy playing sports in my spare time, mainly hockey and football.
- I also enjoy competing with my YFC club in various events.
How did you come to be a UWTSD student and what drew you to studying with us?
I knew that I wanted to study through the medium of Welsh and UWTSD could offer this to me, and through the course that I wanted to study. I also wanted to study at a university that was in Wales and not too far from home. Therefore, UWTSD was the best option for me as it offered what I was looking for.
How would you describe your time at UWTSD Carmarthen?
I have enjoyed my time at UWTSD and have gained a lot of experiences that I can take with me into my career after graduating. I think I have grown as an individual and gained confidence because of the different experiences UWTSD has offered to me.
What’s a normal day like for you on campus and what do you do in the evenings and weekends while on campus?
I tend to be in lectures three times a week, and for the rest of the week I work on my assignments and complete other commitments. I know there are many societies on campus that do arrange various activities and events to entertain students during the week and weekends, as I am a member of a couple of the societies like the welsh society, teacher’s society, choir and the sporting teams. Every Wednesday is normally game day for the sports teams, this is a great chance to work as a team and play against other universities.
Can you share any hidden gems that you have discovered during your time at UWTSD?
The best places to study/eat/socialise/explore in general.
I would recommend visiting Yr Egin for a coffee or lunch, I have spent a lot of my time in here socialising. Another place I would recommend spending your breaks between lectures is in the CWAD. If you want to study the library is the best place, there are plenty of books and a quiet working environment.
Advice for future Carmarthen campus students?
My main advice is to put yourself out there and try everything the university has to offer. Making sure that you join different societies to socialise with other students or work as an ambassador for the experience.
What do you love most about the campus?
I like that the campus is small, this means that you can get to know everyone. The size of my class isn’t too big which gives us a chance to get to know our lectures well too.
What do you love most about the area?
I enjoy that we are close enough to the countryside and the coast. But also close enough to the town of Carmarthen for shopping and entertainment like the cinema or bowling.

I’m a third-year student who enjoys my degree as well as all the societies the university has to offer!
How did you come to be a UWTSD student and what drew you to studying with us?
What drew me to study at UWTSD was the course, the fact that it was local and allowed me to study through the medium of Welsh.
How would you describe your time at UWTSD Carmarthen?
A fun, challenging and maturing experience.
What’s it like living in Carmarthen?
This is where I’ve grown up so it’s fabulous to be able to receive higher education here!
What’s a normal day like for you on campus and what do you do in the evenings and weekends while on campus?
Most days I’m in lectures or on placement at local schools and so I like to chill with friends in the evenings and have fun on weekends!
Can you share any hidden gems that you have discovered during your time at UWTSD? The best places to study/eat/socialise/explore in general.
The new ‘Cofio Lounge’ in town is lush for a nice brunch and ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ for a cocktail at night. The Carmarthen Campus has many good places to study, my personal preference is The Egin café ‘Y Gegin’ where you can have a nice snack and chat too!
Advice for future Carmarthen campus students?
Make the most of your time, whatever it is you’d like to gain from your university experience. Most importantly, be yourself and have fun!
What do you love most about the campus?
That it’s close to town and the countryside. Also, that it combines both professional and university based buildings.
What do you love most about the area?
That it’s my hometown :)
