I:Spell
I:Spell is a ‘Spelling Bee’ competition, designed around the English curriculum and the Writing across the curriculum strand of the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF), which states that Year 7 pupils are able to “use a variety of strategies and resources to spell familiar and unfamiliar vocabulary and subject-specific words correctly”.
Participation in the competition will give Year 7 pupils the opportunity to compete against other schools across the South West Wales region. Resources will be available, so that your school’s I:Spell teams can familiarise themselves with all aspects of the competition before the event.
The competition will:
- Deliver a fun way of engaging with the English language
- Promote essential literacy skills
- Develop confidence in pupils
- Develop spelling skills
Past winners of the I:Spell Championships:
2019 - Ysgol Harri Tudur / Henry Tudor School, Pembrokeshire.
2018 - Ysgol Coedcae / Coedcae School, Llanelli.
Participant feedback:
During the day, I learned to never give up and to keep aiming high! It was fun and intense. I would highly recommend it – and that’s with one c and two m’s!
