Catering Team at UWTSD host Fairtrade activities

The Catering Team at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) have been hosting a range of Fairtrade activities. The team are taking part in the Fairtrade Fortnight which takes place from 29th Feb to the 13th March.

As part of the Fairtrade Fortnight they hosted as many local farmers as possible in Carmarthen for an event called ‘Sit down for Breakfast, Stand up for Farmers’ which took place on 3rd of March at the Halliwell’s Merlin restaurant.

The breakfast was open to UWTSD students and staff as well as members of the public.

Kelly Williams, Conference and Marketing Manager said: “These events are our way of saying thank you to our local farmers, many of whom are our main suppliers here at UWTSD. We have a great relationship with our local producers and it’s very important to us that we support them.”

Peter Howells, Farm Policy Adviser, NFU Cymru said:

“Congratulations to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for arranging an excellent Fair Trade breakfast event at their Carmarthen campus as part of the “Sit down for breakfast – stand up for farmers” campaign. It’s heartening to see their efforts in raising awareness about the importance of supporting local farmers and local suppliers and great to see how they’re supporting local food businesses through their food procurement policies.”

NFU Cymru represents farmers, managers and partners in agricultural businesses including those with an interest in farming and the countryside.

The catering team are also celebrating Welsh Food Week, 29th Feb to the  6th March, as they serve a different Welsh dish every day that is sourced from local Welsh businesses.
