High profile art professionals visit Swansea College of Art

Karen McQuaid, Curator at The Photographers Gallery (London) and Lucy Moore, Claire De Rouen Bookshop, visited UWTSD Swansea College of Art to lead group portfolio sessions with 3rd year Photography in the Arts students on Friday 5th February.

This was the first of two visits from Karen McQuaid and Lucy Moore, they will return to Swansea College of Art in May for one to one portfolio reviews with each student, looking at development and professional presentation.

Holly Davey, photography lecturer at UWTSD and organiser of the visit said:

“This was a great opportunity for students to meet with London based arts professionals to talk about their work and the direction that they would like to take their careers. It presented students with an opportunity that would otherwise probably take years to achieve- to talk to high profile art professionals and gain an insight into their practice. Students gained ambition and confidence in their work as they see real life examples of very successful individuals.”

The visits from Karen and Lucy are part of a Marketing and Self Promotion module on the BA Photography in the Arts course, that helps prepare students for life after graduating and the working world.

BA Photography in the Arts at UWTSD is concerned with exploration, self-discovery and innovation. Students are encouraged to pursue personal interests and individual pathways throughout the course, in order to develop a unique visual photographic signature. Due to the friendly atmosphere and small class sizes, the course enjoys exceptional student/staff interaction and communication.
