Pembrokeshire Students get a Taste of Advertising Branding at UWTSD event

The BA(Hons) Advertising and Brand Design course at Swansea College of Art welcomed Pembrokeshire College students to a Taster Day this week.

Second year, Level 3 Interactive Media students enjoyed a one-day workshop that introduced them to the professional practice of branding and promotion. The Taster Day was run as part of an initiative by University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

Interactive Media student, Dominic Cunningham said:  “I was really looking forward to coming to the taster day as I’d thought about pursuing my interest in advertising. I really enjoyed working on the mini campaign and now I’m certain that this is the path for me once I complete my College course!”

The course was organised as part of a university-wide careers initiative to introduce potential students to the courses on offer at Swansea College of Art. The Pembrokeshire students were put into teams and tasked to create an organic brand for a fictional strawberry and mint cordial business start-up. The experience was designed to give them a real taste of what it is like to work in the advertising and brand design industry.

Denys Bassett-Jones, Interactive Media Lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, said: "This was a great opportunity for the group to experience student life and future study options. My students are not unfamiliar with real-life projects as many of them have designed logos for local companies. It’s great for them to get an insight into the creative world and experience as much as they can while they make decisions about their future.”

Martin Bush, Programme Director for the BA(Hons) Advertising and Brand Design course at UWTSD added: “We are always happy to welcome potential students to get a taster of the advertsing and brand design course we offer here. We are extremely passionate about what we teach and many of our students go on to highly successful careers in the business when they graduate.”

The course has now been running for over ten years and in 2016 received 100% student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. Swansea College of Art are holding their next Open Day on Saturday 5th November and you can book your place by visiting
