Christmas Concert 2016

Featuring performances by Aelwyd y Drindod; students from the University’s Wales International Academy of Voice (WIAV); students from the Cardiff-based BA Perfformio (Performance) course along with the British Sinfonietta, the concert will include a range of Christmas classics that are sure to delight audiences.

Conducted by UWTSD lecturer and leading Choral Director and Composer, Eilir Owen Griffiths, the concert is now a firm festive favourite in Carmarthen.  The concert provides the University’s talented students the opportunity to showcase their musical abilities in the charming surroundings of the chapel.

“The annual Vice-Chancellor’s Christmas concert is a great opportunity for the students to perform with one of the UK’s leading professional orchestras and to highlight the wealth of talent we have within the University,” says Eilir, music lecturer and course leader for the popular Welsh medium performance course.

“I always look forward to this occasion and I’m sure the audience will be delighted with the programme we’ve prepared for this year’s concert.”

Students from the renowned Wales International Academy of Voice - including Sarah Hayashi, Chloe Miorgan, Nathan Lay and Shanul Sharma, accompanied by WIAV's Head of Music, Jane Samuel – will sing a range of classical Christmas songs.

Students from the BA Perfformio course, will sing a selection of songs from the musical RENT – a musical that they’ll be performing in Welsh for the very first time  at the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff later this month.

The University’s Christmas concert will take place at 7.30pm on Sunday, December 4th at the University Chapel, Carmarthen Campus. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased by calling 0300 323 0015 (9.00am-5.00pm Mon-Fri) or by visiting www.ticketsource.co.uk/tsd.
