UWTSD’s Marlene’s Marvels raise funds to keep Wales Air Ambulance flying high.

UWTSD’s Marlene’s Marvels have presented nearly £4,000 to Wales Air Ambulance. The money was raised after the group; Louise Harris, Helen Thomas, Mel Thomas, Marlene Tobias and Melanie Lawlor-Fellowes, took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 2. They had been training with Rugby star Gareth Thomas, as part of his 100-strong  Alfie’s Angels.

UWTSD’s Louise Harris said: “It was a fantastic event and being involved with Alfie and the Alfie’s Angels was a wonderful experience. Four of us - Melanie Lawlor-Fellowes was unable to attend – then met with Alfie at his local Wales Air Ambulance shop in Adare Street in Bridgend to present the fundraising cheque. Marlene’s Marvels raised an amazing £3914.50 which will help to fund a number of potential lifesaving missions for the Wales Air Ambulance. The shop manager Sandra John was presented with the cheque by Alfie on behalf of Marlene’s Marvels. Sandra thanked us for our efforts in the Marathon and for raising such an amazing amount of money for the charity.  A number of the volunteers were also at the cheque presentation and said they were very grateful for the fundraising work of Marlene’s Marvels.”

Louise said their relationship with Alfie’s Angels was set to continue. She added: “All of Alfie’s Angels are all still in contact with each other and following on from the Cardiff Half Marathon, a large number of Alfie’s Angels are ‘still running’ which has now become our motto. We meet for events such as the 10k MoRun which took place last week in Cardiff and are meeting to take part in local Parkruns. Alfie is very impressed with the legacy of Alfie’s Angels which has encouraged all 100 Angels to take part in the half marathon, an event which the majority of us never believed they could complete.”
