Former UWTSD student wows judges on X Factor

Last Sunday, a former UWTSD student wowed Simon Cowell and his fellow X Factor judges with a brilliant rendition of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down.

Lloyd Macey

Twenty-three year old Lloyd Macey from the Rhondda has just finished at UWTSD where he studied the Welsh medium BA Perfformio (Performance) course in Cardiff.  He’ll be graduating with first class honours in a ceremony that will be held on the Carmarthen campus this November.

“We are so proud of Lloyd,” says Eilir Owen-Griffiths, course director of BA Perfformio.

“Lloyd gave a fantastic performance on Sunday’s programme and we’re very pleased that he’s through to the next stage.  Lloyd was one of the first students on this innovative new course and it’s been wonderful to see him grow and develop as a performer.  He’ll be graduating later this autumn with a first class honours degree and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievement.  We all know what Lloyd is capable of – let’s hope Simon Cowell can see that potential too.”

Lloyd is also very proud to have studied with the University and attributes the development of his voice and his performance skills to what he’s learnt during his time on the BA Perfformio course in Cardiff.

The best thing about the course is that it gives you the opportunity to explore all aspects of performance before deciding what we want to focus on - we have had so many different experiences,” says Lloyd.

“We’ve also worked with numerous professional performers and directors over the last two years - people who have seen our progress and witnessed our development.”

Established by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, the BA Perfformio course is an innovative and progressive course taught intensively over a period of two years by a combination of staff from UWTSD and experts working professionally in the areas of television, dance, entertainment, musicals and theatre.

Taught at the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff, the fundamental ethos of the BA Perfformio course is to provide a solid technique along with a broad understanding of the creative industries in Wales and beyond.  Because of the intensity of the course and the specialist training associated with it, places on the course are limited.

Staff and students across all UWTSD campuses are all wishing Lloyd well and look forward to seeing him perform on the X Factor Bootcamp programmes later this autumn.
