During this academic year 67 students at UWTSD and Coleg Sir Gâr have received one of the Coleg’s scholarships. To mark this achievement a special ceremony was held at the university in order to present certificates to the successful students.

In conjunction with the Coleg the university and Coleg Sir Gâr have invested extensively in recent years in creating new Welsh medium provision in fields such as Art & Design, Agrigulture, Sport Studies, Business, Early Years, Youth and Community Work, and Religious Studies. By now the majority of Welsh-medium courses at UWTSD qualify for Coleg Scholarships.

Gwilym Dyfri Jones, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor at University of Wales Trinity Saint David said:

"We are delighted that so many of our students have secured a Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol scholarship this year. The University is fully committed to providing quality education through the medium of Welsh and to ensure that our students have every opportunity to study in their preferred language.

Over recent years we have invested extensively in a wide range of academic fields in order to increase and expand the Welsh medium provision at the university. The University is working closely with the Coleg to develop and provide innovative Welsh medium education and we continue to plan to ensure that provision and further opportunities are available to our students in the future.

The ceremony was a very special occasion and it was wonderful to see all the successful students have the opportunity to come together to celebrate and socialize. "

Dr Hefin Jones, Dean of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol added:

"As Dean of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol it has given me great pleasure to see all the developments that have taken place in Welsh medium education at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in recent years. This work has been across a range of disciplines; from performing and fine arts to business and physical education. Today is the culmination of all this work where we’ve had an opportunity to present a record number of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Scholarships to UWTSD students”
