UWTSD Final Year Film students to host premier in city

UWTSD's Swansea College of Art Final Year film students take over the city's Taliesin tonight for an extravaganza of short films, documentaries and music videos.

As part of a showcase of their work throughout the three years, the students will be showing an exclusive premier of individual short films at 7pm.

Professor Ian Walsh, Dean of UWTSD's Swansea College of Art said: "We’re delighted with the incredibly high standard of work produced by this year's final year ba and ma students. In these uncertain times we can all take heart and celebrate the creativity demonstrated by our talented band of graduating artists and designers."

The premiers are that latest in a series of exhibitions that showcase the graduate work of students from a wide range of degree courses as part of their final assessments. After being shown in Swansea, the exhibitions will then travel to London where they will be displayed in venues and exhibitions around the city.

The school has put on a total of seven exhibitions altogether, including illustration, advertising and brand design, photography and fine art, graphic design, film and digital television, and an exhibition that comprises the work of students undertaking design degrees including surface pattern design, product design, automotive and transport design, glass, animation, and games design.

The exhibitions will then make their way to London where they will be shown at New Designers, an annual industry event that brings together design professionals from all over the UK. Photography students will also see their work exhibited at the Copeland Gallery in Peckham.

Professor Ian Walsh, Dean of Art and Design, said: "Swansea College of Art’s season of summer shows is an established British cultural institution. For over 160 years the College has exhibited the very best young talent from our range of leading art, design and media courses. This summer’s showcase is our biggest by far and promises to be a real celebration of our graduates' creativity and hard work.”

The exhibitions mark the end of another excellent year for UWTSD Swansea College of Art. The college saw the welcome return of Swansea Animation Days (SAND2017) where they welcomed among other speakers, graduate Ryan Morgan who was recently part of the Oscar-winning team behind The Jungle Book. Students from BA Surface Pattern Design won three-month paid internships at global brand H&M headquarters in Stockholm where they will be spending the coming summer working with design teams for the company. Film and digital television students organised a film festival called Swansea Film that received entries from film-makers worldwide and brought together a wide range of young film makers.
