UWTSD students come 3rd in Sports 2000 Championship in Silverstone.

The racing season started in style for students studying Motorsport Engineering who took to the podium after coming in 3rd place at Silverstone last weekend.

The team of students from UWTSD FACE’s Motorsport Engineering courses travelled to Silverstone to begin their Sports 2000 Championship campaign. After overcoming some initial problems in the practice sessions, they placed 6th and 3rd out of 35 cars in the two races. The team also took the opportunity to rename their car ‘Lightning Bertie.’

In a group statement, the team said: “Great drive from Tim, and a good start to the season! With many new members of the team, we can build on these solid results of 6th & 3rd, and are looking forward to a strong season!”

University of Wales Trinity Saint David is one of the leading Universities in the UK for Motorsport education. The team, comprised of Engineering and Management students, has the opportunity to gain experience of developing and running a 2 litre sports racing car in a ‘real world’ environment against professional teams. Students can put theoretical knowledge into practical use and gain skills for their future careers in industry.

The team’s driver is BEng Motorsport Engineering Programme Director Tim Tudor. He said: "The team of students have been working really hard over the winter to prepare and engineer the car for this season. They have done a fantastic job and this shows in the excellent results achieved this weekend. Their professional attitude and enthusiasm is extremely impressive. A great start to the season".
