Professor Medwin Hughes, DL, Vice-Chancellor, UWTSD said:  “The University is delighted to be working with Tileyard Education on this leading-edge degree programme based at our London campus. The collaboration with Tileyard exemplifies the way in which UWTSD is working alongside business and industry to develop relevant programmes focused upon the student experience and graduate employability. This academic-industry interaction is mutually beneficial as it ensures that our graduates are future-ready and that our industry partners are working alongside the University to ensure the ready supply of well-trained graduates who can make a difference to their business from the outset.”

The one year, full time MA programme focuses on independent entrepreneurial skills and practice as well as more traditional business methods within the context of the new mixed media music economy. It provides students with direct access to more than 1,000 creative industry entrepreneurs on site at Tileyard, while developing cutting edge thinking and insight into the management and growth of independent record labels, music publishing, artist management, promotion, marketing and new technology entrepreneurship.

Tileyard Education opened a new state-of-the-art training centre in January and is launching a suite of post graduate and professional training programmes in songwriting, production, music business, design and film making that connect students and alumni with first-hand professional experience, networks and opportunities at every level.

Harry Leckstein, Managing Director, Tileyard Education, said: “University of Wales Trinity Saint David is a new powerhouse of industry-centric creative entrepreneurship and as such there is a deep sense of shared vision and passion with Tileyard to drive forward the interconnectivity between higher education, creative industry and new technology. This first MA programme is ideally suited to aspiring creative entrepreneurs keen to harness the largest professional music community in Europe.”

Recently announced, Martyn Ware, founding member of The Human League, Heaven 17 and iconic music producer for Tina Turner, Terrence Trent D’Arby and Mavis Staples, has become Principal of Tileyard Education. Martyn, who is a Visiting Professor at Queen Mary College, University of London, a member of BAFTA and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, said: “I’m honoured to join the Tileyard team as Principal for Tileyard Education.  The exciting and unique possibilities of helping to design a brand new educational approach to the music industry persuaded me to get involved and I fully intend to use my passion for education to help create a genuinely world-class series of courses which will enable students to achieve their maximum potential in the rapidly changing music industry.  My approach, like the courses we are launching, is very much based on pragmatism – teaching students how to augment and, in particular, strongly apply the network of skills needed to be successful in today’s mixed media workplace. I believe that Tileyard Education, housed within the Tileyard Studios community, will be unique in offering the most diverse and connected range of employable skills, knowledge and networks – in fact it is my mission to make sure this happens.”
