UWTSD's Dr Jane Davidson delivers talk at TEDxSwansea 2017

The  independently organised TEDxSwansea took place on Saturday, June 24 at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea. The theme for this year’s event was ‘Evolve’.

UWTSD’s Dr Jane Davidson was one of five speakers taking part. There were also performances from UWTSD Honorary Fellow Steve Balsamo.

TEDx is a program of locally organised events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.

TEDxSwansea brings together the region’s leading innovators and explores some of the world-leading work that is taking place in the fields of science, technology, business and art. The event will also be a showcase for creative talent, with live performances during the day.

Steven Stokes, TEDxSwansea Director, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from everybody in the region. Our previous two TEDxSwansea events were very successful and we have even received positive feedback from TED headquarters in New York, who described our events as interesting and diverse.

“The region is growing in confidence, and so it should. What we have to offer is something worth celebrating. The fusion of natural beauty, industrial dominance and an ancient history has shaped the people and the landscape, however, we are no longer clinging to our past. Parts of the city are shedding their skin, with new developments offering a 21st-century experience for recreation, retail and education.

“However, it’s not just the physical developments we should be focusing on. Behind the walls of our businesses and educational institutions are the innovators and creators whose work is having an impact across the world. It is these people we are keen to support and celebrate by giving them a global platform to share their ideas.

“With the support of the region and its people, it is our aim to ensure TEDxSwansea becomes one of the most respected and eagerly anticipated events in the international TEDx calendar.”

This year the event was supported by University of Wales Trinity Saint David, the South Wales Evening Post, Brightseed Ltd, Buffoon Film and Media, National Waterfront Museum, Perago, iCreate and AT Photography.
