UWTSD’s First cohort of BA Perfformio students graduate

A new innovative degree programme aimed at training and developing performers of the future has reached an important milestone.

BA Perfformio 1

The first cohort of students from UWTSD’s Canolfan Berfformio Cymru have celebrated their graduation at a special ceremony in Carmarthen today (7 November 2017).  At the centre students study the pioneering Welsh medium BA Perfformio degree course which was established back in September 2015 and is taught over a period of two years.  The intensive teaching occurs at The Gate Arts Centre, Cardiff, with periods of teaching on the University of Wales Trinity Saint David campus in Carmarthen also.  At today’s graduation ceremony 12 students who enrolled on the course in 2015 were presented with their degrees.

Course Director Eilir Owen Griffiths said:

I’m delighted to see the first cohort of BA Perfformio students graduate today.  The basic ethos is to provide the BA Perfformio students with a solid technique, coupled with a broad understanding of the creative industries in Wales and further afield. The degree is of a practical nature with regular opportunities for students to perform and showcase their progress.  In focusing on preparing students for life as professional performers, BA Perfformio places great emphasis on practical aspects, with voice, body, mind and career of a performer key to the program's content.  The course is intensive, and the training is specialised, which means are only a limited number of places on the course every year.

We’ve already seen our students gain unbelievable experiences.  This year alone Elin Hughes, who is one of our current students, has sung with Coldplay in front of a packed crowd in the Principality Stadium and Lloyd Macey, who graduated today, is now living his own dream on The X Factor.  We look forward to producing many more stars in the future.”
