University of Wales Trinity Saint David are holding a week of events at the Swansea Business Campus to promote their latest recycling initiative on the campus. The events have been organised by the university’s Sustainability Team to draw attention to the new bins that are being introduced to the campus. There will be Information Sessions held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for anyone who would like to know more about the initiative or about recycling at the university in general. All staff and students are welcome to attend.

As part of the initiative, the team will also be holding a series of activities to promote sustainability. On Monday at 12.30pm, they will be holding a recycling quiz where participants can test their knowledge of recycling and sustainability. On Wednesday the team have organised a Trash Dash, a high-speed waste challenge. On Friday, the team will be on the campus showing their favourite TEDTalks and short films on waste management.

Fiona Wheatley, Sustainability Development Officer at UWTSD, said: “The introduction of new recycling services on our Swansea Business Campus is a really positive step towards helping us increase the amount of waste we are recycling, and reaching our ambition of increasing at source recycling to 70% by 2025.

We’re holding a series of information sessions and events alongside the roll out of the new bins that will give people an opportunity to ask questions about the new services and find out more about the importance of recycling in a fun and informal way. We’re really excited to see the positive impacts this is going to have on the campus.”

UWTSD is committed to creating a community of staff and students who support sustainability through social, economic, cultural and environmental responsibility and is a proud signatory of the Sustainable Development Charter. Through work carried out via The Institute of Sustainable Practice, Innovation and Resource Effectiveness (INSPIRE), the University aims to place sustainability at the centre of its delivery for its curriculum, campuses, communities and culture. This initiative is the latest in a series of events hosted by the Sustainability Team that promotes a culture of environmental awareness within the university.
