27.03.2018

Winning films from UWTSD’s successful Copper Coast International Film Festival are to be screened at Cinema & Co on Monday, May 21 at 6.30pm.

The event will be opened by UWTSD’s Timi O’Neill, Programme Director MArts & BA Film & TV.  Caroline Thraves, Head of School of Fine and Media Arts at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art said: “We are delighted to be working with Cinema and Co in extending the audience of the winning films from Copper Coast International Film Festival. Cinema and Co are a perfect partner for us at Swansea College of Art as a unique indie film house, live venue and gallery space.”

Anna Redfern of Cinema & Co in High Street, said: “Cinema & Co. is very excited to be extending UWTSD’s highly successful Copper Coast International Film Festival by screening the winning entries.”

UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art celebrated a successful Copper Coast International Film Festival (CCIFF) 2018 with over 3,000 entries from all over the world.

Comprised of a three-day short film festival, with a gala awards ceremony on the final day, CCIFF, which showcases the very best storytellers the world of film has to offer, was set in the heart of Swansea and housed within UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art.

This year’s awards focused on the theme of diversity with many of the films submitted reflecting fears and issues that do not always find their way into the mainstream press.

Films created by American filmmaker, writer, director, producer and composer Hal Hartley were screened at CCIFF, with speakers including Kevin Allen, Destiny Ekaragha, Clare Sturges and Chris Durlacher.

UWTSD’s Timi O’Neill,  Programme Director MArts & BA Film & TV said: “The team developed a screening schedule that covered three days (two for screening, one for the Awards ceremony) at venues that reflect Swansea’s newly emerging rich cultural quarter that is the new heartbeat of the city.

"The philosophy of the festival placed diversity at its core. Responding to the much publicised events that have caused the film & TV industries across to the world to be scrutinized, the team created a festival that had a socially engaged ethos to promote a wide a range of stories and storytellers, reflecting the multi vocal nature of film.”

The range of this year’s awards reflected the wide range of talents involved with the film industry. These included; Best Welsh Language Film, Best Animated Film, Best actress, Best Actor, Best Film and UWTSD ALUMNI Achievement Award.
