Jon was one of 11 Graphic Design students selected to attend New Designers in London this year. He said: “It was a busy time. We had a week to set up and then we had a full week of meeting with people, having interviews, showcasing our work.”

Jon was awarded the Science Museum Award, which means he will be spending three weeks working at the Science Museum on an upcoming exhibition about the Apollo 8 mission. He will also be working on the Future Expo project. He said: “It’s amazing! When I was in London for New Designers, it gave me a general idea of what my day to day working life could be and I just had a great time.”

Donna Williams, Course Director of BA Graphic Design, said: “Jon is a well-deserved winner. He has been an exceptional student with a diverse, exciting and skilled portfolio. We are absolutely delighted that he has been acknowledged and noticed for his talent. Jon took every opportunity to use all the fantastic facilities at Swansea College of Art at UWTSD. Job offers are now flying in around us. As a University, we work very closely with all of our students. It has been wonderful for many of our Graduates who are receiving lots of interest and offers from high profile companies. Some of which, are only choosing to interview students from Swansea College of Art. We are extremely excited and happy for our graduates.”

Jon was also offered a three-week internship working with online card company Moonpig, at their offices in London, another company who approached him at New Designers.

New Designers, which is held at the Business Design Centre, London, is the most important design event in the UK ensuring the life cycle of the design industry continues and thrives. It brings together design education, design consumers and the design industry to celebrate and recognise the next generation of graduate designers. It is a regular event for the design-based courses offered at UWTD’s Swansea College of Art.

Jon said: “I can’t put it into words how much I enjoyed my course. All the lecturers make it so relaxed, so nice, the facilities just add bonus to the course and overall, it’s just got something about it. I’ll miss the lecturers the most, and uni itself. The facilities are just amazing!”
