New Designers and H&M – The Story of Us and Them Goes Full Circle

27.06.2018

As BA Surface Pattern Design students from UWTSD's Swansea College of Art open their exhibitions at this year's New Designers, we take a look back at our history of success at this event.

Students with their work

It’s a full 3 years since the H&M talent recruitment team approached the Surface Pattern Design graduates of 2015 at New Designers, the break-through talent exhibition at the London Design Centre.  H&M were so impressed by the students they met that they approached us to run a live brief in Autumn 2016 resulting in a group of our 2nd year students going to Sweden for 3 months during the summer of 2017 to work at their design HQ.  One of our alumnus, and New Designers ‘One Year On’ alumnus, Rosie Cook, is now working full time as a print designer at H&M.

The students graduate this year and will be going to New Designers themselves.  Who knows who they will attract to their stands (T48 and JC66) and what amazing cycles of opportunity and employment they will generate.  What comes around goes around at New Designers – we love that.  We look forward to welcoming the H&M team back too.
