Prestigious appointments for lecturers at UWTSD's School of Architecture

22.06.2018

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is delighted to offer congratulations to Ian Standen and Ryan Stuckey from the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (FACE) on their recent appointments to the Council of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) respectively.

Ian Standen, a senior lecturer at UWTSD’s School of Architecture, is selected as the regional representative to the Council of the Royal institute of British Architects (RIBA) starting in September 2018. This 3 year post will give Ian the opportunity to help influence national policy governing the profession, the construction industry and the education of Architecture.

The RIBA is governed by a council of 60 members, elected from among the RIBA membership, the majority of whom are chartered architects. Chaired by the president, the council meets four times annually and is ultimately responsible for the conduct and development of the Institute. The council passes down detailed responsibility and technical focus to the RIBA Board and main committees.

Ian said: ‘It is a great honour to represent Wales in such an important role.”

Ryan, a lecturer in Architecture at UWTSD’s School of Architecture, is now president elect of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW), the Welsh regional branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He will take up the 2 year post as president elect in September 2019. Amongst numerous other duties he will chair RSAW meetings and preside over the annual conference.

Ian and Ryan, as well as being lecturers, both have considerable architectural practice experience and will be the only two Welsh representatives attending the RIBA Council committee meetings in London.

Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering, Professor Michael Fernando said: "Ian and Ryan have been an integral part of the Faculty's School of Architecture. I am delighted that they are recognised in this way within the architecture community. It is a well-deserved honour, and the Faculty is very proud of them. I am confident that they will do an excellent job in their respective roles and their experience will enhance students' experience at UWTSD."
