The Universities UK International campaign aims to double the number of UK undergraduate students who study, work or volunteer overseas as part of their studies.  As part of its commitment to creating Global Citizens, UWTSD has a longstanding study abroad programme and a number of exchange programmes with numerous partner institutions.  As well as having strong links in the USA and Canada, UWTSD also has relationships with institutions in Europe through the Erasmus programme, in China through the Chinese Studies programme and with the International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) in Malaysia.

Many students apply to study at UWTSD because of the unique opportunity to study abroad whilst studying for their degree programmes, seeing the opportunity as a great way of enhancing and adding value to their student experience.

Rebecca Bright, a BA Acting student who will be going to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro noted: "It was the main reason I chose UWTSD, I wasn't aware of any other University that offered study aboard within a BA Acting course"

Darcy-Louise Marrow BA Anthropology student who went Vancouver, Canada said: "One of the biggest reasons I chose UWTSD was that no other University offered an integrated study abroad opportunity in my chosen field."

Kath Griffiths, who leads the study abroad programmes at UWTSD said: “We are committed to creating global graduates at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. We have excellent long-standing partnerships throughout the world and I encourage all students to take up this fantastic opportunity. Not only will it give students a fantastic educational opportunity, but it is also life-changing. We also support our students throughout the whole process.”

“Our curriculum focus on internationalisation is a good one and our commitment will help us make further improvements to the overall student experience. Many of our programmes at UWTSD have placement opportunities overseas, such as the Travel and Tourism with opportunities to visit Malaysia, Switzerland and placement opportunities in Aspen Colorado. UWTSD also has programmes with vocational and field-based study, such as Applied Anthropology and Archaeology Professional Practice.”

Currently, just 6.6% of students in the UK complete an overseas placement and UUKi aims to double the number to 13% by 2020. The four guiding principles of the campaign charter are to:

  • Increase the percentage of UK students who study, work or volunteer abroad as part of their higher education programme
  • Promote the value of study, work and volunteering abroad
  • Enhance the accessibility of studying, working and volunteering abroad
  • Improve the collection and reporting of data on study, work and volunteering abroad

Many of UWTSD’s Undergraduates courses have overseas opportunities, students and applicants who would like to find out more about the study abroad opportunities at UWTSD, can contact Kath Griffiths by emailing
