The launch took place during the Awards for Excellence in Training and Development held in Hong Kong on Tuesday, 26 June. The prestigious awards are unique in Hong Kong and give public recognition of achievements in training and development to individuals as well as organisations.

Professor Simon Haslett, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Enhancement) took part in the launch of the new MBA provision as part of HKMA’s Training Awards Seminar.

The partnership between UWTSD and HKMA has recently taken on added significance in light of a Joint Declaration signed by the Hong Kong and UK Governments in March this year that includes a commitment to enhance educational collaboration between the UK and Hong Kong. Professor Haslett was delighted to meet Dr Law Chi-kwong, Secretary for Labour and Welfare during the event to discuss collaboration.

Professor Haslett responded with a speech celebrating the partnership and noting that 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of its relationship with Wales. He also said that “the UWTSD MBA and DBA programmes delivered through HKMA provide exciting opportunities to contribute to company professional development strategies, giving individuals opportunities to upskill and gain higher qualifications, whilst undertaking business-focused research that will not only be of interest to the student but also of value to the company”.

Following the speeches, Dr Lee and Professor Haslett exchanged souvenir gifts to mark the launch of the MBA programme.

During his visit to Hong Kong Professor Haslett also has the opportunity to meet with the University’s alumni network in Hong Kong and met with the British Council.

HKMA has worked with the University of Wales since 2009 and a launched the DBA award in collaboration with UWTSD in April 2017 that has already welcomed three intakes of students to the programme.
