UWTSD launches partnership with LUX* Resorts and Hotels

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is delighted to have launched a new partnership with luxury international hospitality company, LUX* Resorts & Hotels, as the company embarks on its first accredited leadership development programme.

LUX* Students

Developed by staff at UWTSD’s Wales Institute for Work-based learning, the innovative Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Practice (Leadership in Hospitality) has been tailored to meet the specific needs of LUX* employees based at the company’s Mauritius resorts.

Delivered in partnership with South Africa-based LRMG Performance Architects, the learners will follow a blended learning approach of study delivered through 7 focused modules and assignments.

The aim of the programme is to enhance the leadership skills of LUX* employees in line with the company’s strategic objectives as well as helping the learners to reach their potential and to meet their higher education aspirations with an internationally recognised qualification. Because of the nature of the work-based learning programme, the learners will be able to apply the knowledge they gain during their studies during their day to day work.

“On behalf of all of us at LUX*, I congratulate our participants for embarking on this exciting new learning journey and wish everyone abundant success,” says Paul Jones, Chief Executive Officer of LUX* Resorts & Hotels.

“I am confident that each participant will take personal responsibility for enhancing their knowledge, skills and abilities in line with the programme’s objectives.

“I am very pleased to see that our first cohort comprises of Heads of Departments and Managers from our Mauritius operations,” continues Paul Jones.  “Leadership is everything in our business! A transformational guest experience is delivered only when leadership is visible in operations, never settling and accepting what we see; but by being curious and asking ‘Why Not.’ We can together create immense value by feeding our curiosity with new knowledge and developing innovative ideas that will truly help our guests celebrate life.”

UWTSD’s Wales Institute for Work-based Learning develops and delivers integrated continuing professional development and offers programmes that incorporate accreditation of employers’ staff development programmes; accreditation of prior experiential learning; and delivery of a range of modules leading to an academic higher level qualification in Professional Practice.  Learners are able to gain qualifications ranging from undergraduate level through to a Professional Doctorate (DProf).

Dr Annette Fillery-Travis, Head of the Wales Institute for Work-based Learning, is delighted to be working with this internationally renowned company to deliver its first leadership development programme.

“This programme builds upon our unique but substantial experience of working with organisations from a range of sectors at home and abroad,” says Dr Fillery-Travis.

“We have developed a programme flexible enough to provide bespoke development for individuals from a wide range of professions, from hotel managers in Mauritius to police constables in Wales.  We look forward to following the progress of the LUX* employees and wish them well with their studies.”
