The Faculty’s School of Applied Computing has been successful in getting 3 of their part time degrees accepted as Digital Degree Apprenticeships. They are the first courses of their kind being offered in Wales.

Head of School Professor Ian Wells said: “The School of Applied Computing highly values the strong links that we have developed with industry. We have spent several years developing these programmes and are delighted that all the hard work has led to the first, and only, level 4 to 6 Digital Degree Apprenticeships in Wales. These programmes, we believe, will help to fill a serious skills gap in the Welsh workforce”

The Digital Degree Apprenticeship has 3 pathways: Applied Software Engineering, Applied Data Science, and Applied Cyber Security Management.

Delivery is a combination of one day per week at University and 4 days working with their employer. The apprenticeships are funded with all fees paid for (£27000) and the apprenticeship will take 4 years to complete for students while they work with a sponsoring employer.

The degree programmes are all accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) to Chartered IT Professional (CITP) level while the Software Engineering pathways also has partial chartered Engineer Status (CEng) which is the highest level of accreditation for an undergraduate degree.
