UWTSD's Carmarthen campus prepares to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David will be holding a week-long programme of events over the course of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018 between the 12th and 16th November.

The programme has been jointly developed by the Carmarthen Business School, Carmarthenshire County Council and third sector organisations and will include an awareness-raising session around the availability of business grant support, a social enterprise conference and an open forum aimed at discussing the development of entrepreneurship in Carmarthenshire.

“A number of exciting events have been arranged which will be of interest to students of the University and the wider community.” said Gwilym Dyfri Jones, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University.  “The focus will be on raising awareness about enterprise amongst local people and improving their understanding of how to successfully run a business. We anticipate a lot of interest in these events.”

Hywel Davies, the programme’s co-ordinator added: “It can be scary to start a business but there is support out there for those who really want to experience the excitement of being their own boss.”

Councillor Cefin Campbell, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Communities and Rural Affairs noted:

"As someone who has run a company for more than 10 years, I am very aware of the benefits and challenges involved in maintaining business in a period of economic uncertainty. But undoubtedly, the benefits are more than the disadvantages and with the right support, you can succeed.

Carmarthenshire County Council is eager to see more young people set up businesses and become entrepreneurs. Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the county's economy and if we want to create more jobs in the future and offer work opportunities to keep our young people in the county then we need to boost enterprise and support people to set up and grow successful businesses."

Events will be taking place on UWTSD's Carmarthen Campus, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin and Yr Atom, King Street.
