Zahira Nessa graduates with BA in Early Childhood

Today, Zahira Nessa graduated with a BA in Early Childhood during a ceremony at the University’s Carmarthen campus.

Having originally studied a UWTSD Foundation Degree at Gower College, Zahira decided to continue with her studies and complete her BA degree whilst also working in a local school.

“I had already started my job in a school before I applied for the Early Childhood course - I wanted to ensure that I had a higher education qualification to help me in the future for if, and when, I wanted to switch from my current role as a learning support assistant to perhaps a teacher or play therapist. I thought that by gaining this degree it could support me in opening various doors to working with children," says Zahira.

“As I was working full time whilst also studying, I realised how much more aware I was of my practice. I learnt a lot of tips and skills in working with children and I was able to bring a lot of the knowledge gained to my work place to my studies. I felt I was able to understand children better and ensure I used better ways to support them and carry out good practice.

“I’m very happy in my job and by studying this course it has made me feel confident and aware. I hope to build that confidence and continue developing my professional skills. I hope that with a little more experience, I will be able move onto a bigger role in working with children.”
