Be an Architect for a Day at UWTSD on April 6

UWTSD is hosting a taster day called ‘Be an Architect for a Day’ in conjunction with the Royal Society of Architects in Wales on April 6 at the University’s SA1 Swansea Waterfront development.

The event, which will be held in the University’s new IQ building in SA1 from 10am to 4.30pm forms part of the annual Wales Festival of Architecture. The 2019 Festival (which hosts events during April and May) aims to reach out to a wider audience across Wales to explore the positive impact that well-considered architecture has on people’s everyday lives and experience.

The event in IQ will be opened by Ian Standen, Senior lecturer and Programme Director of Architecture at UWTSD, who will deliver an introductory talk on Architecture in Wales. This will be followed by a talk on the benefits of an education in architecture by Ryan Stuckey, Programme Director Architectural Technology and workshops to explore structural design and designing new installations with Gavin Traylor.

Ian Standen said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming budding architects in to our new studios for the day to explore design in a creative and supportive environment.”

Ryan Stuckey said: “‘The be event will be a great opportunity for UWTSD to work with the Royal Society of Architects in Wales and the wider architectural profession and raising awareness of our courses and creating contacts for collaboration as the school grows.”

The Wales Festival of Architecture is a joint initiative between UWTSD, Aberystwyth Arts Centre – Aberystwyth University – and the Royal Society of Architects in Wales Mid-Wales Branch. RSAW is the Royal Institute of British Architects in Wales, representing around 650 Chartered Architects in four Branch areas of Wales.
