Event Management student celebrates first class success

Ruth Melton, has today graduated with first class BA honours degree in Events Management from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

Ruth Melton

Originally from Norfolk, twenty-one year old Ruth visited Swansea for an Open Day and knew immediately that she wanted to come and study at UWTSD’s Swansea Business School.

“I wanted to study somewhere where they offered smaller class sizes – I didn’t just want to be a name and a number,” says Ruth.

The BA (Hons) Events and Festivals Management programme offered at UWTSD is underpinned by core elements of Business Management and Project Planning and is designed to prepare graduates for working in the dynamic Events and Festivals environment.

Although she’s only graduating today, Ruth has already secured a job at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea as a Gallery Assistant and member of the Public Events team.

“I’m going to be helping to organise over two hundred events a year and I’m very excited,” continues Ruth.

“The course taught me about industry and gave me the top skills needed – how to communicate and how to engage with people. I learnt to work with everyone.

“I got my job through my work experience placement whilst at University. They extended the placement, then offered me a job - which I accepted!

“I didn’t think I would have a job before I graduated but from the very outset, the course was geared towards making us more employable. Each lecturer brings a different skills set and you learn so much about the industry. I would definitely recommend the course.  I’m also coming back to UWTSD to study a MBA – so I’m not leaving the University.  I’ll have the best of both worlds – working part-time while also carrying on with my learning and furthering my education,” adds Ruth.

Suzanne Wells, Programme Director of the Events Management degree programme at UWTSD is delighted with Ruth’s success and is extremely proud of her achievements.

“Ruth is an exceptional student who’s always given her best to every piece of work she’s presented.  She always goes the extra mile to support her fellow students.

“Ruth also had a really successful work placement and has now secured work with the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea - I wish her the very best for the future,” says Suzanne.
