Lampeter graduate donates money to Chapel in memory of his late wife

Steve Austen-Drennan has donated £2,200 to the University Chapel in Lampeter on behalf of a collection raised in memory of his late wife Sue. Steve and Sue had recently married in the university chapel, the week before Sue died of cancer.

Sue had remained an active member of the community throughout the two years since her initial diagnosis and had raised in excess of £4,000 for a variety of charities. Sue and Steve had been together for 24 years and have two sons together, Asa and Jasey.

The College Chaplain, Rev Dr Emma Whittick, said on receiving the donation: "The Chaplaincy has been providing a free breakfast for students each weekday since October last year. I'm delighted to receive such a generous donation from Sue's family and friends which will enable this project to continue.  Sue was well-known for the way she cared for students and with this money we will, in some small way, be able to keep her memory alive."

Steve is a graduate of the University and Sue was an active participant in campus activities. Steve said: "When I was a student, Sue often provided meals for other students who were experiencing difficulties and so this is a fitting tribute to her. I am grateful for all the support I have received from the University during this difficult time, in particular, the College Chaplain and staff from the Philosophy Department”.
