Silver Award for UWTSD in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF)

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) has been awarded a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF).

TEF Silver

This framework assesses excellence in teaching at universities and colleges, and how well they ensure excellent outcomes for their students in terms of graduate-level employment or further study. The TEF was developed by the Office for students in England, and although higher education (HE) policy is a devolved matter, individual HE providers in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are also able to take part voluntarily.

The panel consists of experts, including academics, students and employer representatives. It considered all the information in UWTSD’s submission in relation to the TEF criteria and stated that its judgement reflect, in particular, evidence of:

  • course design and assessment practices providing scope for high levels of stretch that ensures all students are significantly challenged, and acquire knowledge, skills and understanding that are highly valued by employers;
  • optimum levels of contact time, including outstanding personalised provision, that secure engagement and active commitment to learning and study from students;
  • clear investment in high quality physical and digital resources that is showing impact upon student learning;
  • the use of research and scholarship to enhance curriculum design, strengthen student engagement, and enrich the student experience;
  • a strong sense of regional and civic mission, a commitment to student engagement with industry, and clear strategy for improving graduate prospects within a challenging employment context.

Dr Mirjam Plantinga, the University’s Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Experience said: “We are delighted with our silver award within TEF and are pleased that the panel has recognised the excellence of our teaching, the personalised learning experience we offer to our students, our strong focus on employment-driven learning and student engagement. This achievement reflects the hard work of all the staff and the close partnership with our Students’ Union and students."
