Swansea Council Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism awarded UWTSD Honorary Fellowship


Swansea Council Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, Robert Francis Davies, has today (Wednesday, 17 July) been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Cllr Robert Francis Davies, is an elected Councillor for the Morriston Ward for the City and County of Swansea Council.  Cllr Francis-Davies’s Cabinet portfolio includes a range of issues promoting business and investment within the city as well as culture and tourism.  He is also responsible for collaboration and development with the City’s two universities, a role that he has embraced fully ensuring that Swansea city benefits from the economic, social and cultural capital generated through the education sector.

Presenting the award was Professor Ian Walsh, Dean of Swansea College of Art at UWTSD.  He said:

“Councillor Robert Francis Davies can truly be described as ‘Mr Swansea’.  It is Robert’s life-long commitment to the City and more importantly the people of Swansea that we recognise here today.  This commitment shows no sign of abating and Robert continues to serve his Ward and his City with great distinction and pride – a pride born out of a love for the people of this great city and desire to see Swansea once again emerge as a globally leading city of culture, innovation and learning.”

Following the ceremony Cllr Robert Francis Davies added:

“It’s a great honour to receive this award – never did I imagine I’d be wearing a hat and gown in the wonderful Brangwyn Hall.

I wish the graduates every success - stay in Swansea, be happy in Swansea and create new businesses in Swansea!  Whatever you wish to do make sure you’re happy!”

He is a Director of the National Waterfront Museum Swansea, Ltd, Wales National Pool Swansea Ltd, Swansea Stadium Management Comm Ltd, and BID Ltd.  His is the Local Authority Governor for Morriston Comprehensive and Cwmrhydyceirw Primary School.  He has defended his Council seat successfully for the Labour Party, held since 1983.
