UWTSD delegation visits Ukraine based Alfred Nobel University

A delegation from UWTSD recently visited the Alfred Nobel University (ANU) in Dnipro, Ukraine, to contribute to a celebration of Wales, promote current programmes and discuss strategic developments within the relationship.

Ukraine Visit

The representatives, who included Dr Stuart Robb, Head of Collaborative Partnerships (Partnership Relations), Prof Mike Phillips, Director of Research and Claire Blanchard, Partnership Team Leader, undertook the two-day visit to ANU in March.

The visit began with a celebration of the relationship that ANU has had with higher education institutions in Wales since 2010. The work of the staff at ANU in adopting a UK approach to delivering higher education has culminated in the development of an area within the institution which is committed to delivering the education and wider educational experience which is based on those cultivated within the UK.

Dr Stuart Robb was invited to deliver the keynote lecture opening the Wales Week celebrations covering a brief history of Wales entitled ‘A (brief) history of Wales in two objects’. Professor Mike Phillips chaired a strategic development meeting with leading Ukrainian businesses and staff of ANU to identify future programme developments. Claire Blanchard also delivered a presentation on the UK approach to quality assuring higher education.

ANU had also invited local schools to participate in a competition on the subject of Wales, which comprised a range of presentations on the history and culture of Wales, as well as examples of students learning to speak Welsh.

Dr Stuart Robb, Head of Collaborative Partnerships (Partnership Relations) said: "It was great to be able to celebrate the relationship which ANU has had with institutions in Wales since 2010, the recent relaunching of a BA (Hons) in International Management with UWTSD, as well as beginning to discuss plans for developing the relationship with UWTSD for the future. The staff at ANU have continued to show both their dedication and enthusiasm for the relationship which has been developed with UWTSD and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with them as they seek to grow their relationship with UWTSD."

Professor Simon Haslett, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Enhancement) at UWTSD, added that “maintaining partnerships with highly respected institutions in Europe is of strategic importance to the University, Wales and the UK, especially within the current political context, and UWTSD is delighted to be continuing to develop its relationship with Alfred Nobel University.”
