At the Awards Ceremony in London last night, it was also announced that UWTSD has been ranked 8th overall in the ‘University of the Year’ category.  Now in their sixth year, the WUSCAs recognise institutions for excellence in a wide variety of academic and social areas and offer prospective students a student-led alternative to traditional university ranking systems.

After the collection of over 41,000 student reviews from 160 institutions across the UK, UWTSD celebrates a number of additional successes in key categories.  Top twenty UK positions have been obtained in two categories:  "Student Support" (15th in the UK) and "Facilities" (20th in the UK).  The University was also ranked 28th in the ‘Student Union’ category – climbing 19 places from 47th position last year.

Simon Emmett, CEO of IDP Connect which owns Whatuni, believes that this result signifies the ongoing commitment of the higher education sector to the student experience. He added: “This year’s strong results are a clear indicator that despite the increasing cost associated with accessing a university education, students recognise and value the opportunities, support and teaching that they receive.”

Dr Mirjam Plantinga, the University's Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Experience said: "We’re delighted to have won the ‘Courses and Lecturers’ category at this year’s Whatuni Student Choice Awards.  Our strong emphasis on personalised learning, small classes, student support and working together with our students in close partnership has been crucial to achieving this result.

Staff at UWTSD work hard to make university life for our students enjoyable and fulfilling, so to be recognised in this way, based on student feedback, is excellent news.  The quality of the student experience is central to our mission."

Following the Awards Ceremony, a Spokesperson on behalf of Whatuni said:

“Well done to UWTSD!  Small class sizes, passionate, yet approachable lecturers and the opportunity to spend time on placements are what students love about courses here.”
