UWTSD's IQ Building in SA1 is nominated for Building Excellence Award

University of Wales Trinity Saint David is delighted to hear that our new IQ building at SA1 Swansea Waterfront has been nominated in the South Wales Regional LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Awards 2019 in the Best Educational category.

The building is home to Yr Athrofa, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Engineering and the Construction Wales Innovation Centre.

It was designed by Stride Treglown architects and constructed by Kier, with a total of 22 welsh subcontractors also working on the project.

A new library (Y Fforwm) is also sited close by. UWTSD is dedicated to creating a community of staff and students across all its campuses who support sustainability through social, economic, cultural and environmental responsibility. The SA1 buildings are BREEAM Excellent, featuring renewable technologies such as Solar Photovoltaics and taking a green approach to water conservation, through use of rainwater harvesting and waterless urinals.

Landscaping will utilise local tree species and there is exemplar quality cycle storage provision.
