UWTSD Swansea College of Art Creative Advertising students are collaborating with Brand Swansea to help create a dynamic identity that celebrates the authentic story of Swansea.

At the forefront of this new perspective, the students have been networking with communities in and around Swansea to take stock of “where we are”, have engaged at street level (remotely of course) to discover “who we are” and are exploring the future of “where we want to be” in a positive way.

UWTSD’s Caroline Jones, senior lecturer in Creative Advertising said: “Over the years Swansea has faced many challenges and changes, Brand Swansea is an exciting project evaluating where we are, who we are and where we want to be.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for us all to have our say and express ourselves in these challenging times and to look to the future with optimism. UWTSD Swansea College of Art is proud that the Creative Advertising students are taking an active and pivotal role to drive this initiative forward.

Caroline said the BA (hons) Creative Advertising programme has provided the students with the skills to engage with complex issues, discover insights and generate creative solutions.

“They are utilising their professional skills to liaise with the Brand Swansea client Mike Scott. This client relationship is fruitful and longstanding, in 2013 Swansea College of Art Advertising and Photography students collaborated to produce some early conceptual work for the Brand Swansea project,” she added.

“Year3 Creative Advertising students are not afraid to take innovative risks and their unique and original viewpoints on the Brand Swansea project will form part of their Graduate Portfolio final exhibition which was showcased in an online event on May 4.”

Creative Advertising student Klaudia M said: “It's a great opportunity to connect with the space we happened to live in. Brand Swansea has encouraged me to explore the city and expand my Uni experience.  It's so important to be present and engage with our surroundings and community.

“Working on Brand Swansea has helped me gain confidence in my work as a creative and seeing my ideas getting positive feedback and potential usage has really assured me that I’m on the right career path.”

Rebecca Davies added: “It's great to see our ideas come to 'life' in the real world and to be able to be proud of what we are doing for the city.”
