Lee Waters MS to address Swansea BID and UWTSD’s Fighting for Our City Centre Webinar

22.06.2021

Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, and the minister responsible for Business Improvement Districts in Wales, will be the keynote speaker at the next Swansea BID and UWTSD webinar, on Thursday 24 June at 12noon.

Swansea SA1

Lee Waters MS, Senedd Constituency Member for Welsh Labour, will speak about the value of BIDs to local economies across Wales and about some of the challenges and opportunities that are emerging across the country at the moment. Future Wales: the national plan 2040, regeneration, Transforming Town Centres and environmental improvements relating to regeneration are part of the Deputy Ministers portfolio, so he will have a number of insights to share on these topics.

Associate Professor Kathryn Penaluna from UWTSD (University of Wales Trinity Saint David) will also deliver a talk about the university and its students’ considerable contribution to Swansea city centre and its economy, identity, and future. She will also speak about ways in which BID area businesses in Swansea can engage meaningfully with both the growing student population and the university in a way that is beneficial for all.

The webinar is part of a series of online events hosted by UWTSD for Swansea BID to keep Swansea city centre businesses informed about the developments that are reshaping the area, attracting investors, and future-proofing the region.

Russell Greenslade from Swansea BID said: “We are pleased to invite Lee Water MS to our latest Fighting for Our City Centre webinar and we know both he and Kathryn Penaluna from UWTSD will have many useful insights to share with our BID area Businesses. Clearly, town and city centres have been dealing with very testing times over the past year and it is important that we make the most of the opportunities ahead for Swansea city centre as it is re-shaped for the future. The Swansea BID ballot is approaching fast, and we hope to be in a position, after June 24 to continue in the close partnership work, we have been doing with UWTSD and with other key stakeholders in the city centre to help make Swansea a great place to work, live and enjoy.”

Professor Ian Walsh UWTSD Provost, Swansea and Cardiff said: “It has never been more vital for universities to combine with Government at a local and national level to support economic regeneration and the sustainability of BID businesses in our city centre."

The event will begin promptly at 12noon on 24 June.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. Please log-on to attend at 11.50am on 24 June.
