The league table published today (Friday 17 September) provides rankings and full profiles for 131 UK universities.  The guide looks at scores from the latest National Student Survey and focuses on key metrics such as ‘teaching quality’ and ‘student experience’, as well as’ social inclusion’, ‘mature students’ and ‘students with disability’.

One of the key measures in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 is ‘teaching quality’ where UWTSD secured 13th position in the UK.  The University also secured 8th overall for ‘Social Inclusion’, 6th for ‘students with a disability’ and 8th for ‘mature students’.

Professor Mirjam Plantinga, the University’s Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Academic Experience, said:

"This is the result of the hard work and commitment of staff across the University.  They are passionate about teaching and supporting our students to enhance their university experience.

We are particularly pleased with our 13th position in relation to student satisfaction with teaching quality. Under the challenging conditions of the pandemic, scoring highly in in this key measure is important to the University as this is an area where we believe we are able to offer added value to all those studying with us.”

The Times and Sunday Times note:

“UWTSD enjoys a strong record on student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) and has done well to rank 13th nationally for teaching quality this year under the challenging conditions of the pandemic. Alongside personalised on-campus experiences, remote learning is continuing to be a key component of undergraduate course delivery.”

UWTSD are also celebrating several successes at subject level. The University’s ‘Art and Design’ and ‘Architecture’ provision have both been ranked 19th overall in the UK. Other notable results at subject level include:

  • 2nd in the UK for ‘teaching quality’ in Aeronautical and Manufacturing.
  • 2nd in the UK for ‘teaching quality’ in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3rd in the UK for ‘teaching quality’ in Classics.
  • 3rd in the UK for ‘teaching quality’ in History.

UWTSD’s rise in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 comes shortly after the Guardian University League Table 2022 published last week where the University was placed 1st in Wales in 10 subjects and in the UK’s top 15 in 6 subjects.
