By becoming a Stonewall Diversity Champion, UWTSD aims to support its LGBTQ+ staff and students by providing an inclusive workplace where people feel valued and respected.

Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme is the leading employers’ programme for ensuring that all LGBTQ+ staff are free to be themselves in the workplace. It works with over 850 organisations across the UK and every one of their Diversity Champions shares the core belief in the power of a workplace that truly welcomes, respects and represents LGBTQ+ employees.

Jane O’Rourke, UWTSD’s Director of Human Resources, said: “Our people are at the heart of everything we do at UWTSD and we are committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.  We are proud of our dedicated and talented colleagues and work together as a team to make a difference to the lives of our students and the communities we serve. In becoming a Stonewall Diversity Champion the University wishes to ensure that our LGBTQ+ staff feel valued for who they are and the immense talent and ability they bring to the organisation.”.

The Stonewall Diversity Champions programme maintains that the best employers understand the need to take inclusivity seriously and understand that staff should be able to bring their whole self to work. By signing up to the programme, Stonewall will work with the University to take a strategic and structured approach to LGBTQ+ equality initiatives and support our entry into the Workplace Equality Index so that it can benchmark its progress against similar employers.

Professor Mirjam Plantinga, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor of Academic Experience at UWTSD said: “We’re delighted to become Stonewall Diversity Champions. Our Strategic Equality Plan has been established in partnership with our Students’ Union. We want our students and staff to feel confident that they are listened to, heard and have fair and equal opportunities to thrive within the organisation.  Becoming Stonewall Diversity Champion is so important for our LGBTQ+ students and we are delighted to support them."
