UWTSD student’s work selected for British Society of Master Glass Painters Centenary exhibition

This year is the centenary of the British Society of Master Glass Painters and to celebrate, the Society is presenting an online exhibition of members’ work. Jacqui Farrell-Fowler, a postgraduate student of the Glass department at Swansea College of Art, UWTSD, has had a specially designed piece accepted to the exhibition.

Inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keefe, Jacqui’s design, an orchid, fabricated in glass, represents the female stained-glass artists of the 20th Century who are rarely mentioned, invisible and forgotten.

Jacqui said: “Training to become a stained-glass artist at Swansea College of Art has been an incredible experience. This piece for the BSMGP Centenary celebrates all women who have broken through their stained-glass ceiling over the past 100 years.”

Catherine Brown, senior lecturer at the University’s Wales Institute of Science and Art (WISA) said: “We are extremely proud of Jacqui’s achievements and her development throughout the Undergraduate and now her Postgraduate study and admire her resilience and passion of stained glass.”

It is planned to bring a touring exhibition to The Waterfront Museum in Swansea in 2022, so the exhibits can be seen in person. The exhibition also features the work of other UWTSD alumni, including Sarah Knighton, Jane Vincent, Rachel Phillips, and Deborah Lowe.
