The Accelerate Wales programme (the Welsh Health Innovation Technology Accelerator), of which UWTSD’s Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) is a partner, has been extended to December 2022.

The Accelerate Wales programme (the Welsh Health Innovation Technology Accelerator), of which UWTSD’s Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) is a partner, has been extended to December 2022.

Launched in 2018, the pioneering collaboration between UWTSD, Cardiff University’s Clinical Innovation Accelerator, Swansea University’s Healthcare Technology Centre, and the Life Sciences Hub Wales, is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO).

Associate Professor Dr Sean Jenkins, Principal Innovation Fellow at ATiC, said: “Since the launch of this unique research facility at SA1 in February 2019, ATiC has been able to recruit some of the finest researchers and innovators in their fields.  This diverse, highly creative, and dedicated team has developed and delivered more than 30 collaborative RD&I projects in healthcare and life sciences with partners across Wales in the HE, private and third sectors, and the NHS.

“This success, as part of the Accelerate partnership, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the ATiC team, particularly during the past two years, which has been a challenging time for all of us!

“But despite the challenges, ATiC has established many successful external collaborative partnerships with private and public sector partners in Wales that are set to continue and grow.  Most significant of these relationships is ATiC’s role as a key academic partner with Hywel Dda University Health Board’s TriTech Institute.

“We have also been able to collaborate on exciting research projects with colleagues in the Cerebra Innovation Centre (CIC), the Psychological Evaluation and Research Consultancy Hub (PERCH), and the Wales Academy for Health & Physical Literacy (WAHPL), highlighting the potential for collaboration across UWTSD.

“Looking to the future beyond ERDF funding, the ATiC team are excited to be included in the plans for UWTSD’s new Innovation Matrix and the prospect of working with the Institute of Sustainable Practice, Innovation, Research and Enterprise (INSPIRE) in the years ahead to enable our University to continue making a significant impact, driving change and transformation towards a healthier Wales.”
