06.10.2022

Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon FREng, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, (UWTSD) will join Anne-Marie Imafidon, a champion for and speaker on innovation and diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in conversation on stage at the Hay Festival Winter Weekend on Friday, November 25.

The event, entitled She's in Ctrl, How women can take back Tech takes place at Llwyfan Cymru – Wales Stage (Hay Castle, Great Hall) at 7pm.

It will discuss ‘Why women are under-represented in tech. Why does it matter and what can we do about it?’

In She's In CTRL, Anne-Marie Imafidon, insists that technology is not an unchangeable force. Nor is it the preserve of the élite. It is in our homes and in our hands. Rather than feeling powerless to make changes to the way tech works and fails, she argues that it's time to get into the room where the decisions are made. Or, better yet, create our own tech rooms.

Anne-Marie Imafidon is the creator of the social enterprise, Stemettes, which inspires the next generation of females into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Professor Rodriguez-Falcon is one of the most innovative leaders of engineering education reform in the UK. Following five years working as a mechanical engineer in Mexico she made a huge impact at the University of Sheffield, focusing on enterprise, engineering education and diversity.

In the last five years she has shown outstanding leadership in establishing the first new higher education institution in the UK dedicated to engineering. Her inspiration has led to the adoption of a challenge-centred engineering pedagogy at NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering) which recently welcomed its first students, despite the problems created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

She has been recognised with numerous awards and professional recognitions, including recently being elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and this summer was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor of The University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

The event, entitled She's in Ctrl, How women can take back Tech takes place at Llwyfan Cymru – Wales Stage (Hay Castle, Great Hall) at 7pm.
