The Teaching Championship was organised by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC – formerly known as Hanban) together with the British Chinese Language Testing Committee and the British Chinese Language Teachers’ Association. It was the first competition of its kind to be held in the country.

About 100 teachers from the UK’s 29 Confucius Institutes, including Confucius Institutes at the Oxford University, Manchester University, and London South Bank University participated in the competition during 2021. In this year’s finals, Huang Wenyi impressed the judges with the quality of her teaching and the creativity of her online teaching resources, and as a result received the highest score among the 19 finalists.

After hearing the judge’s verdict Huang Wenyi commented: “I’m thrilled to win first prize in this competition and proud to represent the UWTSD Confucius Institute. I’d like to say thank you to my colleagues for all the support they gave me.”

The event was covered in China by Xinhua News Agency, Sina News and other media.
