Emily Sullivan, who studied BA Photography in the Arts at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art undertook an internship at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron, Ceredigion between 30th July-6th August.
The internship opportunity involved Emily working closely with the Eisteddfod’s official photography team, led by Aled Llywelyn, to document the event. It provided Emily with the perfect place to utilise the skills gleaned from her degree and put them into practice after graduating this summer.
Emily tells us: “I worked with Aled Llywelyn and the rest of the team of photographers at the Eisteddfod, and focused on set briefs to develop my skills in a working environment. I also had the opportunity to witness how professional photographers work and manage their files, and received feedback and guidance on what I produced.
“I’ve just graduated from my BA Photography in the Arts degree and will be starting an MA in Advertising in October, so the internship was a great opportunity to get some experience in the field before hopefully moving into a similar career.”
Gwenllian Beynon, Senior Lecturer at UWTSD says: “It’s great that Emily had the opportunity to do an internship as a photographer at the National Eisteddfod. Aled provided this opportunity for Emily and other students who wanted to participate, and I’m sure Emily will have gained a lot from the incredibly busy week she spent immersed in all the opportunities a national event can offer.”
An Eisteddfod spokesperson said: "We were delighted to welcome Emily to the photographic team at the Ceredigion Eisteddfod. She fitted in well into the work of the team and contributed some excellent images which were used in the Eisteddfod's social media output and elsewhere.
"All at the Eisteddfod wish Emily well in the future."
Held during the first week of August every year, the National Eisteddfod is a celebration of the culture and language in Wales. The festival travels from place to place, alternating between north and south Wales, attracting around 150,000 visitors and over 250 trade stands and stalls. The Eisteddfod is a natural showcase for music, dance, visual arts, literature, original performances and much more.
