The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreement with Lakehead University, located in Ontario, Canada.
The University was delighted to welcome representatives from Lakehead University to Wales recently. During the special visit Dr. Moira McPherson (President & Vice-Chancellor) and James Aldridge (Vice-Provost International) visited UWTSD’s three Welsh campuses in Lampeter, Carmarthen and Swansea.
The partnership will benefit both universities through joint curricular programmes and student exchange opportunities. Lakehead University offers a personalised approach to support and has a truly global perspective, with over 1,500 international students, representing over 70 nations around the world.
UWTSD and Lakehead University are student focused institutions with wellbeing at their core. They are also dedicated to inspiring life changing learning opportunities, with an emphasis on services for students who may need extra support. Kath Griffiths, UWTSD’s International Regional Manager (North America and Outward Mobility), said:
“Both institutions have a shared vision of transforming education and transforming lives. Through Welsh Government’s new Taith scheme, we are now able to offer support for students who may not typically be able to participate in exchanges. Through inclusivity, UWTSD are actively removing barriers to participation and supporting students from all backgrounds and circumstances to fulfil their potential.
We look forward to the new partnership with Lakehead university as we welcome staff and students to Wales and enable our students to have a fantastic learning experience in Canada."
Professor Mirjam Plantinga, Pro Vice-Chancellor / Director of the Academic Office commented:
“In line with its widening participation profile, UWTSD has high numbers of first-generation university students and for those students especially international experiences are invaluable.
UWTSD is dedicated to realising the potential of each individual student and to supporting students at all stages of their education. International mobility is a key area where we believe we can offer added value to all those studying with us.
We are delighted to work with partners, such as Lakehead University, to enhance together the academic experience of our students in line with our shared values.”
Gwilym Dyfri Jones, Provost of the Carmarthen and Lampeter campuses, added:
“The University was delighted to host the President and Vice Provost of Lakehead University this week. It was very evident that both Lakehead and UWTSD are ambitious and forward-looking institutions that provide transformative learning experiences to their students within a caring and supportive environment.
We look forward to establishing a strong and meaningful partnership with Lakehead during the next few months that will allow for close collaboration including staff and student exchanges in future years.”
