Swansea Business CampusThe Faculty of Business and Management at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is to hold an open evening regarding its Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) programmes next week.

The open evening will take place on Wednesday 11th November, 6pm-8pm, at the University’s Swansea Business Campus (High Street, SA1 1NE) for those who are interested in a career in Law. Places for the open evening can be booked via

UWTSD recently became an approved provider of the innovative legal training courses by CILEx.

Frances Edwards, President of CILEx, made the announcement and said: “The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has met our rigorous standards to deliver our flexible learning pathway to a career in law. The needs of both legal businesses and students are continually evolving; the flexibility, accessibility and affordability of the CILEx route meet those needs.”

Many who aspire to become a lawyer are mature students or individuals who already have family commitments or children in education and cannot afford the option of three years or more at university, followed by two or more years training in the workplace.

With this is mind, CILEx programes are designed to be flexible and structured to offer a wide range of study options.

CILEx has around 20,000 members who are either trainee or qualified Chartered Legal Executive lawyers (7,500 are Fellows and so fully qualified lawyers). Over 92,500 people have chosen CILEx as their route to become a lawyer.

Bronwen Williams, Senior Lecturer at UWTSD, said: “With changes in how legal services are provided, structured and funded UWTSD recognises there is an opportunity to meet those changes and provide alternative routes into the legal profession. Introducing CILEx as part of our new Law portfolio is a way of widening access into the legal services profession which can still be unobtainable for talented learners who are put off by the high cost of the traditional route. We will be offering a range of CILEx courses, from Level 3 and Level 6 Law and Practice to the Graduate Fast-track Diploma in a variety of delivery options.

“UWTSD is about transforming education and we see this as a way to transform entry into the legal profession which will ultimately transform the lives of the students we aim to attract. This is a very unique and exciting opportunity for the University and we are proud to be working with CILEx.”
