UWTSD Students return from studying in the USA

A cohort of students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s BA Acting and BA Design and Production courses have just returned from a period studying in the USA.

These fortunate students from the School of Performing Arts attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and at the California State University in Fullerton – a University on the outskirts of Hollywood, where many members of staff from the department of Theatre and Dance also work in the industry.

As part of its commitment to creating Global Citizens, UWTSD has a longstanding study abroad programme and a number of exchange programmes with numerous partner institutions.

As well as having strong links in the USA and Canada, UWTSD also has relationships with institutions in Europe through the Erasmus programme and in China through the Chinese Studies programme.

Many students apply to study at UWTSD because of the unique opportunity to study abroad whilst studying for their degree programmes, seeing the opportunity as a great way of enhancing and adding value to their student experience.

Tom Middler a former student of UWTSD was listed on the prestigious “Dean’s list” whilst studying at one of the University’s partner institutions in the USA.

“I studied abroad at UNCG in 2010,” says Tom.  “As well as having a fantastic time with the sports and recreational opportunities there, I also learned vital new skills and adopted a different attitude towards my work, thanks to the experience of working alongside so many new people in a totally new environment. This helped me to achieve my goals back at UWTSD, and beyond that, helped me find the drive necessary to work regularly in my chosen field post-university”.

“I’m about to start a production of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie in Vienna, Austria,” says Tom. “It will be my fourth main theatre production in Vienna since I moved here in 2014, and along the way I have toured shows around the UK and Europe.

Kath Griffiths, who leads the study abroad programmes at UWTSD says: “We are committed to creating global graduates at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. We have excellent long-standing partnerships throughout the world and I encourage all students to take up this fantastic opportunity. Not only will it give students a fantastic education opportunity, it is life changing. We also support our students throughout the whole process”

Many of our Undergraduates courses at UWTSD have overseas opportunities so is you’re an applicant or a current student and want to find out more about the study abroad opportunities at UWTSD, please contact Kath Griffiths by emailing
